Wash and dry mat before use
Prepare
- Before using, wash mat in warm, soapy water. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
- Prepare SugarVeil® Confectionery Icing Mix following package instructions. Beat again for one minute just prior to use.
- To aid removal of decoration, lightly dust mat with cornstarch. Brush off excess before spreading icing.
Apply
- Using a spatula, apply a small amount of prepared SugarVeil Confectionery Icing onto the imprinted side of the Confectioners’ Mat.
- Use the Confectioners’ Spreader (sold separately) to spread icing and fill in all recessed areas of design on the mat. Continue adding icing and spreading in all directions until all areas are filled and there are no gaps in design.
Let Set
Place mat on a baking sheet design side up and put into a 200 degree F / 93 degree C oven. As ovens vary, bake for the approximate times below.
If SugarVeil still feels sticky after recommended time, place back in oven for one minute.
Remove from oven. While on baking sheet, gently wipe entire mat with damp cloth in a circular motion and let set 10 minutes.
Note: An oven is not needed to set SugarVeil in the mat. It may be left at room temperature until dry. Drying times will vary considerably depending on mat design, room temperature and humidity conditions. SugarVeil is set when it is firm, separates easily from the mat and does not stretch out of shape.
Remove Decoration – Once dry, place mat face down on a parchment sheet and carefully remove mat from decoration by slowly peeling away mat from the design.
Create and Amaze – Cut decoration to size or twist and shape for desired look. Using a very small amount of water on a fingertip, apply decorations to cakes, cookies, cupcakes and more!

Helpful Tips:
- It is important to remember to remove the mat from SugarVeil not vice versa.
- To make SugarVeil “fabric,” spread a thin layer of SugarVeil icing onto the back of the mat. Using the Spreader tool or thumbnail, scrape clean borders around the edges of the mat so it’s easy to grab when removing.
- White SugarVeil icing may be colored using powder for dark colors or gel or liquid for pastel to medium colors.
- Excess prepared icing may be covered with plastic wrap and refrigerated up to 10 days. When ready to use, let mixture reach room temperature and then beat for a minute prior to spreading. If necessary, add a few drops of water to replace moisture.
- Completed decorations can be stored flat, rolled or gently folded between sheets of parchment paper and placed in plastic bags.
- Dried decorations may be steamed or gently placed onto a damp towel to again become flexible.
